iPhone 18 Pro Max: Dark Cherry Colour, Specs & Everything We Know So Far

Apple’s September 2026 event is shaping up to be one of the most significant in years. Not only is the iPhone 18 Pro Max arriving, but it’s doing so alongside Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone. Here’s everything leaked and rumoured so far.

The New Colour: Dark Cherry Takes Centre Stage

The headline from supply chain sources is the arrival of a striking new finish. The signature new colour for this year’s Pro models will be Dark Cherry — a deep, wine-like red. While earlier leaks had pointed to a “Dark Red” option, the actual hue is said to be considerably closer to wine than a brighter red, and notably more muted than last year’s Cosmic Orange on the iPhone 17 Pro.

Apple has reportedly been working on four colour options for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: Light Blue (resembling the current Mist Blue on the base iPhone 17), Dark Cherry, Dark Gray, and Silver. All four are still in development, and Apple typically doesn’t confirm colours until launch.

Design: Smaller Dynamic Island, Refined Build

The design of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max is expected to closely resemble the iPhone 17 Pro, with changes limited to subtle refinements. The biggest visible update will be a smaller Dynamic Island, enabled by moving Face ID sensors under the display.

Screen sizes remain unchanged at 6.3 inches for the Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max. The camera bump plateau stays too, but there are reports of a slightly reduced gap between the glass cutout and bump for a cleaner, more seamless look.

Performance: Apple’s First 2nm Chip

The iPhone 18 Pro models will use Apple’s A20 chip, built on TSMC’s 2nm process — the first iPhone to use this node. The A20 could be up to 15 percent faster and 30 percent more efficient than the A19, with RAM integrated directly onto the same wafer for faster Apple Intelligence performance and longer battery life. MacRumors

Camera: A Major Upgrade

The front-facing camera may jump from 18MP to 24MP for sharper video calls and improved low-light selfies. A new variable aperture feature is also rumoured for the Pro Max’s rear camera system. Macworld A new three-layer stacked camera sensor is also in development to reduce noise and improve dynamic range.

Apple’s First Foldable — Launching Alongside It

Apple’s fall 2026 lineup will include the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the new foldable iPhone — approximately 5.5 inches when closed and 7.8 inches when open, resembling an iPad mini unfolded. MacRumors

The foldable — rumoured to be called iPhone Ultra — will come in a more restrained palette: Silver/White and an Indigo option similar to the iPhone 17 Pro’s Deep Blue. It will feature two rear cameras, a selfie camera on the outer display, and a second front camera in the upper-left corner of the inner screen. At just 4.7mm thick when unfolded, it would be considerably thinner than even the iPhone Air.

Launch Date

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 18 Pro models and the foldable iPhone in September 2026, though some analysts believe the foldable may arrive at a later date. The standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are not expected until the first half of 2027.

Stay tuned for more Apple coverage as we approach the September event.
